Nextbike launches the largest public bike share scheme in Poland

Last weekend, Nextbike launched its latest project in Poland.

Metrobike, the largest bike share scheme in Poland, will include 7,000 bikes in 31 cities in the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Region GZM.

The system has been available in its first expansion stage since the end of February.

An expected 1,860 Nextbikes can now be rented at 267 stations in eight cities.

In the coming months, Metrobike will be expanded in two further stages and will be fully established by summer of this year.

Thanks to its size and deep integration into local public transport, this system appeals for the transport transition in Poland and beyond in Europe.

The comprehensive bike sharing network being implemented in the metropolitan region is hoped to enrich the mobility of residents and visitors alike.

Thanks to the integration into local public transport, people with a day pass also benefit alongside those with a public transport subscription. This is because everyone can use Metrobike free of charge for 60 minutes per day for each day their ticket is valid.

MaaS integration into the GZM app is also planned for Metrobike.

Nextbike by Tier is a European market leader in bike sharing and stands for a multimodal and socially fair transport transformation.

In 300 locations across more than 18 countries, Nextbike by Tier has established bike sharing as an elementary component of liveable cities and regions.

Integrated into public transport, the company offers millions of users the ideal means of transport for their daily needs with pedal bikes, e-bikes and cargo bikes.

Earlier this year, Tier-owned Nextbike also won the tender for its first bike sharing system in Portugal.

For the tuba bike system in Barcelos, Nextbike will provide the complete hardware, consisting of 200 of the latest GPS-locatable SMARTbikes.

On behalf of the local public transport provider transdev Portugal, a comprehensive bike sharing system is being set up in the city on the Atlantic coast.

Initially distributed across around 50 virtual stations, the system can be adapted to the needs of users and expanded accordingly.
