London Cycling Festival passes 2,500 ticket bookings ahead of September event

More than 2,500 tickets have been booked for this year’s London Cycling Festival, which will take place on Sunday, September 20, with free cycling events planned across 28 boroughs.

Run by London Cycling Campaign and London’s councils, with support from Lime, Voi and the Zero Emissions Network, the festival will feature more than 30 family-friendly and inclusive rides across inner and outer London.

The event is returning for a second year following the launch of the festival in 2025. Organisers said demand for the 2026 edition has been strong, with many rides booking up within weeks of being advertised.

The programme will include four activity hubs in Westminster, the City of London, Tower Hamlets and Richmond. Each hub will feature music, stalls and games, alongside led rides.

A key focus of the festival is helping families and disabled people access cycling. Richmond will host a celebration of cargo bikes, while Tower Hamlets, the City of London and Westminster will offer opportunities to try accessible cycles.

The long-running Tour de Waltham Forest will also take place on the same day.

Festival partners highlight accessibility and growth

Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Deputy Leader of Richmond Council and Chair of the Transport and Air Quality Committee, said the Richmond Cargo Bike Fair would return “even bigger and better” as part of the festival.

He added that cargo bikes are becoming a “genuine alternative to the car”, particularly for families and small businesses, as Richmond works to make cycling easier, safer and more accessible.

Tom Fyans, Chief Executive of London Cycling Campaign, said the charity had seen a “big rush” on free tickets across the capital, adding that the festival aims to help more people enjoy cycling regardless of age, gender, ability or background.

Alice Pleasant, Senior Public Affairs Manager at Lime, said cycling in London is “booming”, with around 1.5 million journeys made daily and rental e-bikes now accounting for at least one in ten cycling trips.

Harry Foskin, Senior Public Policy Manager at Voi, said the festival is a celebration of “safe, fun and inclusive cycling” for everyone, from first-time riders to families exploring local streets.
