nextbike expands into Belgium for the first time

nextbike is launching its first bike-sharing system in Belgium, after successfully winning the tender for the Vlaamse Rand transport region.

For the Leipzig-based company, this market entry marks another important step in its international growth strategy.

In Belgium, the public bike-sharing system is part of the “Hoppin” mobility vision in Vlaamse Rand, which aims to make public transport more efficient, sustainable, and flexible through a multimodal offering. The system’s implementation is being strongly supported locally by the intermunicipal company Haviland.

With its expansion into Belgium, nextbike is strengthening its position as a leading provider of bike-sharing solutions in Europe and expanding its presence in other urban mobility concepts.

  • nextbike brings to the region a total of 185 bicycles and 80 e-bikes at 33 strategically positioned stations.
  • These stations are designated as Hoppin points – central transport hubs where train, bus, streetcar, flex transport, and sharing systems meet.
  • They are recognizable by the characteristic purple-green Hoppin pillar and enable easy transfers between different modes of transport.

The flexible and scalable infrastructure makes it possible to adapt the system to the growth and changing needs of the region. The station-based concept ensures optimum bike availability and a smooth connection to public transport.
