Modeshift celebrates sustainable travel excellence at STARS Summit

Organisations from across the country were recognised at the Modeshift National STARS Summit on Thursday, March 27, which took place at the Royal Society in London.

Modeshift supports, inspires, and champions individuals and organisations that are working to deliver interventions and strategies to improve everyday journeys, with the aim to secure increased levels of safe, active and sustainable travel in business, education and community settings.

The Summit – a key part of Modeshift’s ongoing mission to raise standards in travel planning and sustainable transport delivery across the country – brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and campaigners to share best practice and innovative solutions for increasing active and sustainable travel.

The Modeshift flagship annual event, as part of the day, sustainable travel excellence was recognised through the National STARS Travel Awards. These awards highlight those making a significant impact in promoting sustainable transport choices.

The categories this year covered Business, Healthcare, and Residential sites, alongside Primary, Secondary, and SEND schools and Early Years Establishments. Chew Stoke Church School won the National Primary School of the Year award due to having ‘embraced sustainable travel as a core part of their curriculum with activities like Odd Socks Walk to School Day, Bling Your Bike, and Bike/Scooter Week’.

Sewell Group Ltd in Kingston Upon Hull won Business Site of the Year, with recognition that ‘a wide range of initiatives have been delivered around cycle promotion and reducing car use as well as using smarter working practices like flexible working’. Nick Butler, COO at Modeshift, said: “The Modeshift STARS National Travel Awards shine a spotlight on the fantastic achievements of schools, businesses and organisations across the country who are promoting active travel on a daily basis.

‘’We want to recognise their work in making our communities healthier and safer places to be, and highlight their achievements as a way of inspiring others to do the same. I’d like to congratulate both those nominated and our winners for their work, and I look forward to continuing our partnerships with them in the future.’’
