Besides numerous new schemes, among others in Poland (Metrobike in the Upper Silesian Region) and Spain (TUeBICI in Santander), Nextbike has also entered three new markets this year.
In recent months, the European market leader has brought its mobility solutions to Greece, Kosovo and Portugal.
Moreover, a tender to expand its footprint in France was just secured. As of spring 2025 Nextbike will also establish public bike share in the Mulhouse region in Alsace.
Jhon Ramirez, regional general manager for South West Europe, commented: “The need for not just sustainable, but also dynamic and affordable mobility solutions is becoming ever more evident across Europe, especially in the South, where EU fundings from Social Climate Fonds are very valuable to achieve the climate goals and make public transport more accessible.”
For 20 years, Nextbike has been establishing smart and sustainable mobility solutions as part of public transport across Europe.
Nextbike now offers bike share schemes in 24 European countries.
Recently, these solutions have also hit the outskirts of Athens, Greece. With “bike sharing Elliniko”, Nextbike has entered the Greek market for the very first time.
Since September roughly 50 state of the art e-bikes offer dynamic and sustainable mobility solutions to Elliniko. A first for Nextbike that will soon be followed by further schemes.
Another small but pristine scheme has marked the entry of Nextbike’s bike sharing solutions into Kosovo. “Prishtina bike” was launched in September as well, in collaboration with the long term franchise partner Nextbike Croatia.
The scheme offers 100 modern pedal bikes across 10 stations for the country’s capital.
With “tuba bike” Nextbike’s role in South Western Europe is now not only limited to Spain, where Nextbike is already leading the bike sharing market in terms of the number of cities.
Fittingly, the first Portuguese project was launched during European Mobility Week.
Now 200 pedal bikes have been made available across 50 stations to visitors and inhabitants of Barcelos.
This scheme is especially attractive to users thanks to its public transport integration that makes it easily accessible and adds value to the city’s transportation network.
Nextbike’s expansion is also continued in France, a market that the operator entered last year by providing the hard- and software for the Strasbourg scheme Vélhop.
As of spring 2025 the Mulhouse region in Alsace will become part of the Nextbike network as well. Initially, Nextbike will operate a scheme that will comprise roughly 640 e-bikes to be made available across 64 stations.
With this scheme, more than eight municipalities within the Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération will become part of the new bike sharing network.
And the service will also be seamlessly integrated into the public transportation network via the region’s MaaS platform.
