New Gen Lime Bikes

Lime Releases its New Fleet of E-bikes

Shared e-bike provider, Lime, has announced plans to roll out its latest-generation e-bike model, the LimeBike, across UK cities.

After launching in parts of the US, Australia and Europe, the new model will be introduced across the UK from this month, including London, Oxford, Nottingham, the West Midlands and Milton Keynes.

Playing on the company’s original name, Lime says the new LimeBike joins Lime’s popular Gen4 e-bike model, “offering a smooth, comfortable ride, designed to be more inclusive to a wider range of riders.”

Designed by Lime’s in-house R&D team, it introduces a host of new technology and accessibility features:

– Upgraded on-board technology to improve location recognition accuracy, helping riders more easily find designated parking spots
– 20-inch wheels and a low step-through frame for stability and accessibility
– Modular design and replaceable components to reduce waste and extend the vehicle’s lifespan
– Ergonomic hand grips to provide comfort for longer rides
– Portrait-oriented, secure phone holders to make navigation a breeze

Jon Jenkins, Chief Technology Officer, Lime:  The UK has a newfound love of cycling, from the daily commute to weekend rides and all the journeys in-between. We wanted to build a bike that matches that passion. We’ve listened to everything our riders told us across the world, and built something that combines smart connectivity, easy handling and sharp performance.

But away from the tech, we’ve designed this model to be more inclusive, more intuitive, and more adaptable–you don’t have to be clad in lycra to enjoy the LimeBike. So whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or getting back into cycling for the first time in years, you can jump on a Lime and feel confident to get where you need to go. We’re excited to be working with local councils to start the rollout across the UK.

As part of the rollout, Lime says it will also pilot a small number of its LimeBikes with rear cargo storage in Oxford. The addition of rear cargo will provide extra space for shopping, work equipment and everyday essentials, helping make shared e-bikes more practical for everyday trips.

The innovation arrives as cycling and e-bike usage hit record levels in the UK. Recent studies estimate that 13% of British adults cycle at least once a month. In London, the number of daily cycling journeys increased in 2025 to an estimated 1.5 million journeys per day, with rental e-bikes now accounting for at least 1 in 10 cycling trips.[1]

The launch of the LimeBike reflects Lime’s continued support for sustainable and active travel for UK cities, and reaffirms its commitment to getting more people cycling across the country.

Making cycling for everyone

Despite the growth in cycle rates, research shows that there are still significant gender and age gaps in UK cycling participation. Men make over three times as many cycling trips as women, and only 1% of older people’s journeys are made by bike.[2]

Lime is aiming to tackle this with its new LimeBike innovation. Designed based on feedback from groups traditionally underrepresented in Lime’s active riders – including women and seniors – its new features aim to make it Lime’s most inclusive vehicle to date. The repositioned battery, updated wheels and lower centre of gravity make it more accessible to a wider range of riders.
