Lime records more than three million e-bike trips in Camden

Lime has recorded more than three million e-bike trips in Camden as residents across the borough continue to integrate cycling into their daily routines and social lives.

A third of these journeys took place over five months alone from June to October 2023, demonstrating record demand and how the popularity of Lime’s e-bikes soared over the Summer to become a reliable, mainstream mode of transport across the capital.

Since launching in the borough in January 2019, more than 550,000 riders have now travelled almost six million miles.

The success of the scheme in Camden comes as cycling levels in London continue to rise, supporting important active travel and sustainability goals.

Manish Kharel, general manager for Lime in London, said: “As we reach the five year milestone of operating in Camden, the figures continue to show that residents are embracing cycling more than ever before.

Whether it’s a conscious decision to live more sustainably, or to simply save time and money on their commute. It’s clear that our riders have firmly integrated Lime into their day to day lives, and are benefiting from infrastructure in place in the borough.

“We’ll continue to work closely with the council to ensure our service works for everyone.”

Camden is home to low-traffic-neighbourhoods, new cycle lane programmes and recently created a number of new parking bays to help allow for considerate and safe parking.

Its residents using the service continue to park responsibly, with a >90% compliance rate within the borough. Lime is continuing to work with Camden Council to provide data and funding for additional bays.

Lime’s e-bikes in Camden must be picked up and dropped off in designated parking areas, indicated by ‘P’ icons in the Lime app.

The provider issues regular and ongoing in-app education on this, and uses GPS technology that ensures riders are unable to leave their vehicles outside these areas.

Lime’s journeys have helped replace an estimated 300,000 car journeys in the area, and continues to be an accessible alternative to car travel – 97% of the population are able to access a Lime e-bike within a two minutes walk.
