Lime partners with MyLifeMySay to get young people voting ahead of mayoral election

My Life My Say (MLMS), a leading youth-led, non-partisan charity and coordinators of the annual National Voter Registration Day, and Lime have announced a collaboration to help get more young people voting in May’s Mayoral and local elections in London.

The partnership will support the launch of MLMS’ campaign: ‘Give an X’ which aims to ensure more young people register to vote in time for National Voter Registration Day (April 16).

The charity previously helped 85,000 people to register to vote on National Voter Registration Day in 2022, and has existing partnerships with the UK Government, Mayor of London and United Nations to encourage more young people to engage and participate in democracy.

This partnership, commencing two weeks in the lead up to voter registration day, will begin in April, and will see a number of limited edition ‘Give an X’ branded Lime e-bikes launched in London, featuring QR codes taking people to the UK government’s voter registration page.

Mete Coban MBE, founder and chief executive for My Life My Say, said: “Through our partnership with Lime Bike for the Give an X campaign, we’re meeting young people where they are — on the move, in the city, shaping their futures.

“We understand that many Londoners rely on Lime bikes for work and play, which is why this collaboration is pivotal.

“It’s not just about branded bikes, it’s about breaking barriers, offering free rides to polling stations, and empowering every young voice. Let’s roll towards a more inclusive democracy, one ride at a time.”

For election day on Thursday, May 2, Lime will be providing 15,000 free minutes of Lime rides to MLMS for them to distribute with its network of young people under its global ‘Lime to the Polls’ programme.

The initiative aims to combat common barriers to voting such as cost of travel, or lack of car ownership by providing riders with access to a free and sustainable mode of transport to polling stations.

Manish Kharel, general manager for Lime in London, said: “At Lime, we are extremely proud to be working with My Life My Say once again to support its 2024 ‘Give an X’ campaign.

“We have seen the genuine impact its work has had on increasing voter registration over the years, and by providing its network of young people with free, safe and sustainable transport options for the coming Mayoral and local elections, we hope that we can help MLMS increase this number once more.

“At Lime we believe that access to transport should never create a barrier to voting, and we hope people will Lime to the polls when the time comes to make their voices heard.”
