European Cyclists’ Federation opens EuroVelo and Cycling Tourism Conference registration

The European Cyclists’ Federation, cycling’s voice in Brussels, exists solely to actively advocate for more and better cycling for all.

In April of 2024, European Institutions adopted the European Declaration on Cycling, a historic milestone for cycling.

On Tuesday, September, 24 the opening plenary of the EuroVelo and Cycling Tourism Conference, will explore how this first inter-institutional cycling policy at the European level can boost cycling tourism.

The session will be moderated by Jill Warren, CEO of ECF, who will be joined on stage by:

  • Isabelle Vandoorne, head of unit at DG Move European Commission
  • Máriusz Révész, state secretary, Active Hungary
  • Kenneth Øhrberg Krag, CEO, Danish Cyclists’ Federation
  • Patricia Carmona Redondo, department officer, market intelligence, policies and competitiveness, UN Tourism

A full programme of events can be found here.

Conference theme: Legacy and Localhood.

Cycling is a way of life in Denmark. The 2022 Tour de France Grand Départ left an enduring legacy befitting such a large event on the Danish economy, society and cycling practice. The host city of Viborg was – and still is – a key meeting place on an ancient pilgrim route, Hærvejen (EuroVelo 3 – Pilgrims Route in Denmark), an up-and-coming tourism product.

By exploring the topic of Legacy, the EuroVelo and Cycling Tourism Conference 2024 reflects on the impact that cycling events and the valorisation of local heritage for tourism purposes can have on the economy, the local community, and the use of the bicycle overall.

EuroVelo and Cycling Tourism Conference 2024 puts people at the centre.

A visitor’s experience of a destination is more meaningful if there is contact with locals, and by interacting with visitors on a bicycle, locals can be even more inspired to make cycling part of their lives, as a daily mode of transport and leisure.

Interested parties can secure their conference ticket, and join the Viborg-based event, taking place from Monday, September 23 through Wednesday, September 25.

Registrations are open until Friday, September 6.
