Christiania Bikes introduce smart connectivity to fight theft and enhance rider convenience

Danish cargo bike brand Christiania Bikes is now adding Comodule connectivity to its e-bikes, enabling riders to track and control their bike through the Christiania Bikes app.

With e-bike theft increasing in Denmark, Comodule connectivity will be included as standard on all new mid-drive Christiania e-bikes and as an optional update to e-bikes already on the streets.

The advanced tracking, anti-theft, and bike control features, as well as the new Share My Bike feature have been well received by the customers.

The IoT module is integrated into the bike, which connects the bike to the cloud and enables the bike owners to track and control their bikes via Christiania Bikes application.

Among the main pain points for the majority of the cargo bike owners are the fear of theft, and inconvenient bike sharing.

Connectivity addresses both of them, offering enhanced security and control to the users.

Hans Lerche Engstrøm, spokesman of Christiania Bikes, commented: “We are entering this fairly new smart-bike era together with Comodule.

“Not only have we enhanced the user experience and added new ways to share your Christiania Bike, but we have also enhanced the anti-theft features to a level that is unrivalled.”

The main features include:

GPS tracking: Riders can track their bike’s live location via the app at all times.

Movement alerts: If the bike is moved while locked, riders receive an instant notification to their phones to check if the bike is safe.

Alarm: Sound warnings and full alarm are triggered when someone is tampering with the bike in locked mode. Also, sounds indicate locking and unlocking status changes.

Drivetrain Immobiliser: When the bike is in locked state, the IoT turns the bike off automatically.

Bike control: Users can control power, assist level and lights from the app, and navigate and track their rides using the app.

Digital Bike Passport: A secure digital record of the bike’s and IoT’s information for proof of ownership and insurance claims.

Share My Bike and Location sharing: The bike owners can share the location and digital access to their bike.

Teet Praks, CEO of Comodule, added: “The fact that an OG brand like Christiania Bikes is connecting their bikes exemplifies the trend that cycling is becoming a digital experience.

“Connectivity is the next technological leap for the industry, making bikes smarter, more secure, and future-proof.

“This shift not only enhances convenience for riders but also ensures that e-bikes stay at the cutting edge of technology, ready to evolve with new demands.”
