Bolt has been announced as one of the three companies, alongside Tier and Voi, awarded a licence to operate e-bikes and scooters in Oslo until March 2025.
As a result, Bolt will offer a fleet of more than 2,500 micromobility vehicles in the capital city of Norway from April 1, 2024, having offered sustainable and affordable scooter operations in the city between 2020 and 2023.
Safety is a top priority for Bolt’s scooter operations and the business has launched a number of features to help its customers ride safely and responsibly.
Bolt launched an AI-based end-of-ride parking solution called ParkAssist+ to promote correct parking procedures alongside the reckless rider score to evaluate a rider’s riding behaviour and suspend those who violate safety rules most often.
All the mentioned features are developed in-house by Bolt and will ensure that Bolt scooters in Oslo are used safely.
Bolt will also offer its distance-based pricing model instead of charging per time.
The current industry standard of charging riders for the duration of their trips can incentivise them to reach their destinations as quickly as possible, potentially leading to speeding and other unsafe riding behaviour. Distance-based pricing is aimed at ensuring riders focus on riding safely.
Bolt will operate its newest scooter, the Bolt 6, developed in-house.
The scooter is equipped with numerous sensors and microprocessors, data-mining capabilities and precision technologies to provide the highest standards of safety, sustainability and customer experience.
Martin Tansøy, operations manager at Bolt in Oslo, said: “We are thrilled about the opportunity to return to Oslo, and proud of the trust that the city has shown in us. We are happy to resume our work together to shape sustainable mobility habits, hopefully for many years to come.
“At Bolt, we are committed to being a reliable partner for cities, supporting them in making urban areas more people-friendly by offering alternatives to driving a private car and tackling air and noise pollution and congestion.”
In addition to Oslo, Bolt has recently been awarded licences to operate in two other major European cities – Milan and Brussels.
